DONE - Wikification of old web content

I want to have everything currently on webserver space to be updateable with Wiki. Currently we have these kind of files:

web files
dejavu.png
development files
plans.txt, unicover.txt
distributed files
AUTHORS, BUGS, LICENSE, NEWS, README, README.qpf, status.txt

I plan to:

  • DONE allow file uploads - that will allow dejavu.png embedding and updates (thumbnailing will work after SF.net upgrades its web service)
  • DONE wikify plans.txt and scrap the old plain text version
  • DONE wikify AUTHORS and do not store plain text version nor link it on Wiki - AUTHORS file will be synced before new release
  • DONE wikify BUGS and replace current BUGS file text with link to Bugs Wiki page
  • DONE wikify LICENSE and do not store plain text version nor link it on Wiki - no need to sync it before new release because it does not change
  • DONE wikify NEWS and do not store plain text version nor link it on Wiki - NEWS file will be synced before new release
  • DONE extract interesting information from README and README.qpf - these files will be changed independently
  • DONE link current status.txt from CVS
  • DONE link current unicover.txt from CVS

All wikified files will be live - they will not reflect state of last release, but state of current development (these files are either not changing (LICENSE), there is no problem with them being different (AUTHORS) or versions are mentioned there (NEWS, status.txt)).

DONE I also plan to make a "How to make a release" page.

DONE - Test and reconfigure Wiki after SF.net's Web Services upgrade

SF.net's Web Services upgrade is scheduled on 2004-12-04: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1052417&group_id=1&atid=350001

Image thumbnailing will be switched on after upgrade.

Follow SF.net's changes to Project Web Service

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1109940&group_id=1&atid=350001

Changes affecting DejaVuWiki (see link above for their description; items marked with READY were already launched):

  • DONE - Logo Display (READY) - logo is shown on DejaVuWiki
  • Outbound email from project web and shell servers - MediaWiki allows to send forgotten passwords and private messages by mail - easiest solution will be to make a big notice that private messages are disabled and forgotten passwords are handled by administrator
  • Sandbox and snapshot file services - daily snapshots will be moved from web to file release system
  • Blocking of large file transmission - PDF samples have ~200 KB (hope it's small for this), for daily snapshots see above
  • DONE - MySQL database version upgrade, centralized phpMyAdmin - MediaWiki supports MySQL 4.0.x, upgrade should be transparent
  • DONE - Group directory is read-only on project web (READY) - sessions and images directories will be moved to shared temp directory
  • DONE - Change to MySQL database server host name (READY) - MediaWiki uses MySQL database

DONE - Upgrade to MediaWiki 1.3.11

http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net/

DONE - Upgrade to MediaWiki 1.4.x

http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net/

DONE - Upgrade to MediaWiki 1.5.x

http://wikipedia.sourceforge.net/

Must wait for SF.net to upgrade their MySQL to 4.x, because even if MediaWiki 1.5.x can run on MySQL 3.x, it is not able to upgrade itself on it.

OBSOLETED - Upgrade to MediaWiki 1.4.9

http://www.mediawiki.org/

DONE - Migrate to SF.net's MySQL 4.1

http://sourceforge.net/docs/E07/#mysql

Must be migrated before November 1, 2005.

DONE - Upgrade to MediaWiki 1.6.8

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Upgrading_to_1.6

Upgrading to later versions of MediaWiki cannot be done before SourceForge starts using PHP5.
